Record Microsoft Teams calls on a Mac

echo99 is a bot-free, on-device recorder: it captures the Teams audio your Mac plays and your microphone as separate WAV tracks, right on your Mac, and transcribes them locally. It's a private local copy for your own reference — not a replacement for Teams' own recording, and your workplace policy, notice, and consent stay your responsibility.

A local copy, with no bot in the meeting

echo99 is not a meeting bot. It never joins the Teams meeting and never appears in the roster. It records two things directly on your Mac:

Your microphone — saved as mic.wav and always labeled “Me”.
Your Mac’s audio output — everything Teams plays, saved separately as system.wav; on-device diarization labels the other voices “Them-1”, “Them-2”, …

Because it captures what your Mac plays, you get your own local recording and transcript for any Teams call you can hear. Transcription runs on-device afterwards; the audio never leaves your machine.

How this differs from Teams’ own recording

Teams’ built-in recording is an organization-controlled, cloud feature: an administrator policy governs who may record, and the finished file is stored in the organizer’s OneDrive or the team’s SharePoint, under your organization’s control and retention rules. echo99 works differently by design — it keeps a private copy on your own Mac for your own reference, a transcript, or clean separate audio tracks. It is a complement to Teams’ recording, not a substitute for it — and it does not change what your workplace permits.

Your responsibility: policy, notice, and consent

Because echo99 doesn’t join the meeting, it doesn’t announce itself the way a bot or Teams’ recording banner does — so telling people you’re recording is on you. Many organizations restrict recording by policy or contract, and many jurisdictions require the other side’s consent. Check your workplace’s rules, say it out loud at the start, and keep your recording within both.

Set it up, then record

echo99’s one-time setup — granting the two permissions and downloading the on-device models — is covered step by step, with screenshots, in getting started. After that, recording a Teams call is two clicks from the menu bar: Start Recording, then Stop when it ends, and your transcript plus both WAV tracks are waiting in ~/Documents/echo99/.

Teams tips

Headphones help. Through speakers, your mic also catches the other side’s voice; echo99 has an optional “remove speaker echo” transcription filter for exactly that, but headphones keep the tracks cleanest.
Desktop app or web, same result. echo99 records your Mac’s output, so it captures Teams whether you run the desktop app or Teams in a browser.
Audio only. echo99 records sound and produces transcripts; it does not capture video or shared screens.
